Caring for Our Veterans

I have discussed insurance and insurance companies plenty in my past blogs. Here, in Florida, our state TCM organization, FSOMA, continues to be very aggressive in getting TCM practitioners covered and reimbursed, competitively, by insurance companies like Aetna and United Health. I am very excited this and I continue to be active in helping FSOMA accomplish our goals.
However, there is another trend concerning TCM that I have not discussed. Actually, this trend is one that is very close to my heart. What group has done more to gain and ensure the personal liberties that we enjoy now? If you say it is the Veterans, you are right.
Without getting too far off of what this blog is supposed to be about, I strongly feel that our Veterans deserve the best of everything. In essence, I feel I would not be able to enjoy living in the US, to the fullest, without their sacrifice. Obviously, they deserve the best in healthcare. I cannot comment on the quality of treatment these veterans receive in the Veteran Hospitals or outpatient centers. I have spoken with some Veteran caretakers and they tell me that their treatment should be better.
I will not focus on the lack of quality treatment our Veterans are currently receiving in this system but to focus this discussion on the great news I alluded to at the beginning of this log. I can sense your anticipation. We, TCM practitioners, are now more viable than ever on the Veteran healthcare database. Though TCM practitioners were treating Veterans in some limited manner, it has only been in the past few years where we are now on par with our Western colleagues with regards to scope and reimbursement.
I will get into what this means to the Veterans in future blogs. However, I just ask you to appreciate how a Veteran now has the opportunity to seek the most holistic type of care with the presence of TCM as an option for them…
